Masuk kedalam famili Muraenidae, Hidup di Terumbu
karang, kedalaman 0–5 m; sirip punggung di atas atau dekat bukaan insang, dua
baris gigi vomerine, warna bervariasi, pucat dengan bintik hitam kecil pada
ikan muda, menyatu dalam 2–3 baris bercak gelap lebih besar pada ikan dewasa,
bintik perut bertambah jumlahnya sesuai umur; Indo–Pasifik; sampai 140 cm.
